A complete remodel of the entrance to this Mosman hillside home. A major change in levels using large format custom pavers from Anston Architectural, some with dropdowns giving the overhanging shadow effect. A synthetic turf element wrapping around an interesting step set-out and a raised Corten Steel planter. The site is in full sun with a lot of reflective light, so a hardy drought tolerant plant palette of natives and exotics was selected by Jane. Lighting by Gardens at Night.
In 2007/08 Rhys was fortunate enough to be the construction manager for Foxtel’s Dry Spell Gardening with Brendan Moar. These are some of my favourite gardens. over both seasons. Images were taken on completion of the job by yours truly.

Occupying a large open section between two houses, Chris the designer had some square metres to play with. With an interactive brief and a large planting preference, this design is all about intersecting shapes on the ground as there is only a gradual fall from one end to the other. The build includes a hardwood pergola, Corten edges defining the shapes, Travertine paving and steppers, mature trees with decomposed granite as walk-through surfacing. 3 x major lawns with path & garden lighting supplied By Gardens at Night
This project involved Rhystyled Gardens from start to finish. The clients provided a brief with a variety of situations including the possibility of a plunge pool. All considerations were drawn up and costed and we eventually settled for a simple yet elegant Inner West backyard where all elements get full use, even the shower after a bit of sunbathing in a private screened off zone. The sandstone seat was a labour of love with each block hand shaped. This style of sandstone work gets used in a lot of our gardens. The fire pit pulls guests from the dining area to give a camping feel when lit and looks great all year round as a feature. The ‘Viking’ table and chairs were designed and built by Rhystyled Gardens with aging wharf timbers and vertical screening constructed of recycled hardwood floor joists- nail holes and all. A contemporary pergola designed to blend with the house pops out of tallow wood deck left to silver off . The planting is simple yet effective using Syzgium ‘resilience’, Pennisetum ‘nafray’, Pennisetum ‘rubra’ Dichondra repens, Boston Ivy and Lomandra ‘tanika’ with Kangaroo paws popping out of the foliage for some striking colour
